Outstanding Contribution Award supported by P & S Automation Ltd
The award recognises the achievement of engineers, scientist and technologists in improving marine safety, sustainability, education or international development. Such recognition serves to raise awareness and promote further improvements. The award is presented to an individual, company or organisation which has made a significant contribution to promoting further improvements. Such contributions can have been made either by a specific activity or over a period of time. Nominations may be made by any IMarEST member and are judged by a panel of senior IMarEST members and approved by the IMarEST Professional Affairs and Education Committee and, in turn, the IMarEST Board of Trustees.
Criteria
Contribution to marine safety covers either:

- The successful completion of a program or research project which has had a significant impact on marine safety.
- A single act or effort which is so outstanding that it warrants recognition, e.g. exceptional contribution of expertise, time, skills, facilities, etc.
Contribution to marine sustainability covers either:
-
- The successful completion of a program or research project which has had a significant impact on marine sustainability, in particular environmental sustainability.
- A single act or effort which is so outstanding that it warrants recognition, e.g. exceptional contribution of expertise, time, skills, facilities, etc.
Contribution to marine education covers either:
-
- The successful completion of a program or research project which has had a significant impact on marine education or on the public understanding of marine engineering, science and/or technology.
- A single act or effort which is so outstanding that it warrants recognition, e.g. exceptional contribution of expertise, time, skills, facilities, etc.
- Teams or organisations that best demonstrates innovation in training, development of staff or education of a wider community.
- Initiatives that contribute to addressing a skills/knowledge gap or that contribute to business performance.
Contribution to international development covers either:
- Advocacy, communication, outreach, policy, capacity development and/or public service.
- Aiding the work of marine organisations, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and/or global policy-making bodies.
- Showing leadership by fostering team-based collaboration or facilitating new work that could not be accomplished in isolation.
- Promotion of talent/career pool through excellence in mentoring, increasing diversity, and/or creating or fostering collaborative or innovative programs for formal or informal education and training.
- An individual who has undertaken activities or actions to help developing countries improve their ability to comply with international rules and standards relating to marine safety and the protection of the environment or a contribution to human resources development or institutional capacity-building.
- Fostering collaboration across geographical boundaries in the subjects of marine engineering, science or technology.
- Lead involvement in technology or infrastructure projects that contribute to international development.
General criteria:
- Nominations for this award must be submitted by IMarEST members. However, the nominee (if an individual) is not required to be an IMarEST member.
- Nominations are particularly welcome from members that are not in the same department or institution as the nominee or who work for the nominated company or organisation.
- Nominations are also accepted from colleagues within the same department or institution as the nominee or who work for the nominated company or organisation.
- Members of staff and trustees of the IMarEST are not eligible
- No correspondence or discussion as to why an individual or organisation was not given an award is entered into with either those nominated or the nominators.
- Proposers are encouraged to submit statements that directly address how the nominee fits the remit of the Award they are being put forward for.
Prize
The Outstanding contribution award consists of a certificate and trophy which will be presented annually at IMarEST’s Annual Dinner or, if necessary, another suitable occasion as agreed with P&S Automation.
Rules of the Award
- The judging panel will consider all properly submitted nominations and any materials supplied in support of them.
- The decision of the Board of Trustees is final.
- Materials submitted in support of any nomination will be accepted on the condition that:
- The IMarEST may disclose the names of the nominee(s) and the nominator(s).
- The nominee agrees that disclosure of material submitted in support of the nomination does not breach the terms of any contract of employment or any other contract, and that there is entitlement to make use of the material.
