INEC 2020 lays down the challenge to Naval Engineers to look forward 10 years and devise how we can more rapidly integrate the best of the technical and intellectual leading edge into our Navies while sustaining our safety, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
As we enter a new decade the pace of change and extent of innovation will be both a challenge and opportunity which may fundamentally alter our current assumptions about Naval Engineering. Disruptive technologies have the potential to create a step change in the way we design, build, operate and fight our ships and submarines.
Given our theme, it is highly beneficial that INEC will continue to incorporate the International Ship Control Systems Symposium (iSCSS). The partnership was very successful in 2018 in Glasgow and our links provide a breadth of technical view that remains unique in the Naval sector.
The aim of INEC2020 is to provide those who design, build, operate and maintain ships and submarines including students and researchers, with a platform to share ideas, create networks, promote good practise and demonstrate excellence in our global and diverse domain.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
In light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding organised events and international travel in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IMarEST and the INEC/iSCSS Technical Advisory Committee have taken the decision to continue with the INEC / iSCSS 2020 conference in a virtual online format.
The virtual INEC / ISCSS 2020 conference will take place between 5 – 9 October and consist of a series of mixed-format livestreamed sessions (panel discussions, presentations) led by authors and leading figures from the naval engineering and ship control systems communities, and will be facilitated by the use of an event app which will provide participants with the opportunity to access all content, including the full conference proceedings and exhibitor information, as well as network with other virtual delegates.
Although the change to a virtual format was made primarily in response to COVID-19 pandemic, it has opened up new opportunities for greater reach and engagement. This will allow a greater number international delegates, who would be unable to travel to the conference and attend in person, to fully take part in proceedings and bring an even greater global voice to the event.
We advise that authors continue writing their papers as normal.
We will also be publishing the conference proceedings even if the COVID-19 pandemic forces us to postpone the conference.
We will be in touch with authors with any changes or updates, but if you have any questions or need any clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
