HYBRID LECTURE: Technology & LNG

IMarEST TV recording by the Western Australia Branch on the 13th July 2022. This lecture was presented by Simon Mills of Shell Tankers Australia.

In this lecture, Simon Mills walks through a pilot project commissioned to develop, validate and gain approval for the utilisation of technology, in this case, drones, to transform the survey process for a Moss Rosenberg LNG cargo tank.

He looks at the design characteristics of the MOSS Rosenberg LNG cargo tank and the challenges we face in conducting conventional surveys on a 30-year-old tank system.

Simon goes on to cover how the development of a new survey approach, delivered lower personal safety exposure, reduced asset damage risk potential, significantly shortened the survey timeline and offered cost optimisations.
