More global routes to professionalism
The IMarEST is expanding its international reach through partnering with leading organisations in China and Israel.
The IMarEST is a global organisation, and we are always looking to expand on that through our work with the world’s leading organisations, education institutions and industry.
Recent developments in China and Israel demonstrate our commitment to working with the very best, giving new and existing members invaluable opportunities for learning and networking, and championing the best providers of marine-related education.
We have accredited the BSc and MSc Marine Engineering courses at Harbin Engineering University (HEU), which is listed in the top ten universities at which to read engineering. Both courses were carefully evaluated and considered to offer a good combination of quality classroom teaching and practical sessions.
HEU has 18 colleges, two services departments, and one training centre with 3,200 teaching staff and 30,000 students. The College of Power and Energy Engineering which delivers the two courses has 120 faculty members and 1,500 students. Strong industry links give its students the opportunity for work experience.

Also in China, we have accredited two degree programmes offered by Dalian Maritime University (DMU). The BEng Marine Engineering and BEng Marine Electrical and Electronic Engineering courses are 4-year bachelor’s degrees.
DMU, in the Liaoning region, is a key maritime institution which is recognised as a Chinese Ministry of Education Double First-Class Discipline University. Its maritime faculties employ around 200 members, supporting 2,600 students.
Professor WANG Baojun, Vice Dean – Marine Engineering College, DMU, said, “accreditation helps the two courses to be more internationally recognised, benefiting hundreds of graduates in terms of career and professional development.
“Being an institutional member of the IMarEST also helps both students and teachers to obtain more industry-oriented knowledge, and to be connected to the maritime industry at a global level.”
APAC connections
DMU joins an expanding number of higher education institutions in China and the APAC region that have sought the IMarEST accreditation, including Ningbo University (NBU), the Ocean University of China, IPB University (Indonesia), and UniKL MIMET (Malaysia), as well as Harbin.
Israel's marine professionals
We have also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Israeli Coastal and Marine Engineering Research Institute (CAMERI) to support the training and talent retention of marine professionals in the country.
Both organisations will set up accredited professional development programmes and training courses to attract and retain talent into the marine sector. Routes for professional registration up to Chartered status will be developed for CAMERI employees including engineers, technicians, and surveyors.
