Maritime security is a general term which encompass the protection of vessels both internally and externally. It is essential because it protects an essential element of the global economy. The shipping industry is the engine of the global economy. Annually, it contributes billions USD in gross direct output and millions of jobs. Security threats include piracy and armed robbery, terrorist acts, the illicit trafficking in arms and weapons of mass destruction, the illicit trafficking in narcotics, smuggling and trafficking of persons by sea, illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and intentional and unlawful damage to the marine wildlife and environment.
This webinar will cover the incidents & reports for piracy in the West Africa Gulf of Guinea, High Risk Area (Indian Ocean) & Southeast Asia. The speaker will first introduce the trend and different modes of operation for the perpetrators and their intent, motivation, and reason. He will then share on the necessity of having multiple avenues for information as an intelligence network to prepare during any voyage. Finally, the speaker will share some of the best practices and practical solutions that could be implemented by crew and management, as well as vessel security designs and security systems and also experience as a consultant for hardening and on-board operations.
About the Speaker
Mr Malaravan Ron has more than 10 years of experience in the Maritime Security Industry since 2010, not only as a Business Owner but as a Consultant and Team Leader on board plying the trade in the greater Indian Ocean High Risk Area during the pinnacle of the piracy situation in the area.
He has more than 30 years of military experience from 1978 to 2010 in the intelligence group and various military operation such as peacekeeping in Timor Leste and a decorated soldier. He is also a certified polygraph examiner for the military since 1996 and now turned commercial and corporate. He is a well-rounded and experienced individual in the areas of Physical, Land and Maritime Security locally as well as internationally with first-hand operational experiences.
