This webinar presents a glimpse of India's rich maritime heritage; discussing how warship building in India has matured post independence in Aug 1947 and shipbuilding projects on the anvil.

The speakers also look at the current process of warship and equipment acquisition; support of the defence research organisations in building up indigenous technology for warships and the initiatives taken by the present Government in accelerating the innovations in the Defence, especially focusing on the Navy.

A professional Marine Engineer Officer, Vice Admiral Subhedar, comes with wide ranging experience of close to four decades in various capacities and responsibilities within the Indian Navy involving Innovation, Indigenisation, Technology Management, Ship Repair, Production and Acquisition, Human Resource Management, Operational Logistics, Infrastructure Development, Financial Planning and Control.

Commodore (Dr) R K Rana, PhD (IIT-M), MSc-Marine Engg(UK), BSc-Mech Engg (DU) ME†, CEng (UK), FIMarE (I), FIMarEST (UK), MASNE (USA) Veteran, Indian Navy

Commodore (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Rana was commissioned in Indian Navy on 01 Aug 1979. An Alumnus of Delhi College oF Engineering, 1980, Mechanical Engineering batch, he completed his post graduation from Royal Naval Engineering College, UK and thereafter pursued his PhD degree that was awarded by IIT, Madras in Jul 96. Commodore has served in a variety of organizations in the Navy encompassing training, research, dockyard, staff, design of warships, indigenous products development and onboard ships, during long and illustrious career spanning more than 33+ years.
