Webinar: Ballast Water Reception Services at US ports
IMarEST TV recording by the IMarEST Houston (US Gulf Coast) Branch on the 15th December 2021. This webinar was presented by William H. Burroughs is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Monstrant Viam, Inc., a company founded in 2021 to develop ballast water reception and treatment facilities for U.S. ports.
This webinar discusses The International Maritime Organization (IMO) creation of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention). Ballast water regulations for waters of the United States has adopted a unilateral approach.
All regulatory regimes allow ballast water reception for compliance. Purpose built and operated ballast water reception facilities could revolutionize ballast water management performance. Properly trained and dedicated BWR facility operators, more frequently operated and better maintained equipment, built-in stand-by equipment and other redundancy enhancements, ready spare parts, continuous performance monitoring and permitting including performance testing would promote the goals and efficacy required by IMO and US regulations.
