WEBINAR: Driving the Adoption of Additive Manufacturing in Maritime
IMarEST TV recording by the Singapore Joint Branch on the 25th August 2022. This webinar was presented by Dr Wu Wenjin of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a growing area of interest for the maritime industry. The technology has predominantly been growing strongly in high-mix low-volume industries. Still, a significant number of use cases are driven by opportunities to re-design components for high performance, lightweight and low manufacturing cost, for example, in the aviation and biomedical industries. Recent shifts in global trends have seen AM adoption rising rapidly in other sectors as well, including the maritime industry.
This presentation introduces AM, focusing on key AM processes and materials relevant to the maritime industry. The presentation also covers opportunities from a qualification and certification perspective and conclude with proven case studies and potential applications. Dr Wenjin discusses the relevance of AM in maritime and how opportunities in certification can help drive adoption.
