WEBINAR: Reliability and the Role of Artificial Intelligence

IMarEST TV recording of the 17th May 2021 Webinar for the Naval Engineering Special Interest Group, presented by Karl Hinks, of Wartsila.

About this webinar

Given recent Navy new build projects, it seems likely that naval vessels (both front line & support ships) will require increasing amounts of electrical power. A vessel's operational capability can be compromised when key machinery or equipment breaks down.

The reduction in capability is not only undesirable but potentially embarrassing; since many naval operations conducted today are “joint”. If only we had the “proverbial Crystal Ball” and could see potential breakdowns coming; and hence avoid them. While it is accepted that it is physically impossible for a human to monitor and analyse thousands of streams of data, a computer can. More and more operators are putting their trust in Artificial Intelligence (A.I) to do just that. This presentation takes a closer look at this approach & the benefits it can bring.
