WEBINAR: Visioneering a future navy – one step further

IMarEST TV recording from the Naval Engineering Special Interest Group on the 10th May 2022. This webinar was presented by Jacob Graham, Aaron McMaster, Tara Banahan and Joe Pattison of FutureNEST.

In September 2021, FutureNEST, the young professional arm of UKNEST, presented the outputs of a 6-month campaign to workshop a Future Autonomous Fleet for the Royal Navy. The images produced created an impression of an innovative and future-orientated navy. The imaginative imagery encouraged wide ranging public discussion that ranged from which sci-fi film they closest represented to the major operational benefits that could be accrued should they be incorporated on existing platforms.

These initiatives, aimed at fostering new ideas and cultivating STEM talent, generated positive worldwide media coverage which led to the naval enterprise being perceived as thought leaders in innovative maritime concepts. The team has since taken the ideas “One Step Further”.

This presentation will tell the story of this process and its potential power in the future to generate ideas for the UK Naval Enterprise.
